Reflooring your home is a big decision and you’re going to need to know about the process involved to make an informed decision.

The type of floor you choose will depend on whether it’s been refloored before or not, as well as your budget.

When reflooring a property there is a lot to take into consideration; such as the climate you want to create for the room, will the flooring enhance the look of the room, will it be practical, and will it be durable for that particular room.

Types of flooring

Floors can be refloor with a number of different material such as wood, laminate, vinyl, tiling or carpet. It all depends on the current floor type and your personal preference, and of course, the atmosphere and functionality that room needs.

For example, if you were to re-cover the floor in the dining area, you will probably want to avoid carpet , as it will be harder to take care of, and more prone to a lot of wear from shoes and stains.

Carpet Flooring

Carpet is ideal for bedrooms, living rooms and hallways where you want to add some softness and warmth.

Carpet is soft underfoot with the added bonus of sound dampening. However you will need to vacuum regularly to maintain it’s appearance as it can be prone to collecting dust, and if not cleaned regularly can play havoc with sinuses.Choose a colour that will complement the room, and do not forget to think about underlay

Carpet tiles are also great for entryways, as they come in sections which can be laid quickly one after another giving an overall effect of a larger area of carpet. Many people like using them here due to ease of maintenance.

If you must have carpet, ensure you choose one that is designed for stains and spills and can be easily cleaned.

Timber flooring

Whether you’re looking to polish up existing timber flooring, or replace the flooring with timber, the refloating process is much the same. This will involve removing all existing skirting boards and architraves, sanding back to a smooth flat surface, repairing any damage that may have been done such as dents or the like, adding a new undercoat, sealing it and finally reflooring it.

Concrete Flooring

Stressed concrete flooring or epoxy flooring can provide an interesting and modern style to your home or business. They are made by mixing different colored powders into a liquid epoxy, which is then poured onto the floor to form the desired pattern. Sanding down and refloating these floors will require specialist tools, materials and skills, but can look amazing when done correctly.

Tiled Floors

Tile flooring is durable and there are so many different colours and textures, as well as shapes and sizes. These floors are very hard and a refloating will mean removal of all the existing tiles, usually by breaking them up with a hammer or mechanical equipment.

A handyman will provide your floor tiling services and can advise on the best suited tiles to suit your room and your budget.

Once you’re new flooring renovation is completed you’ll be surprised at home much it will lift the entire appearance of your property’s interior.
